SYSTEM LOG: PROFILE

My name is Juan Alvarado, and am a proud first generation undergraduate school currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Florida International University. As the first in my family to ever attend college, I've discovered my true passion in Python programming and machine learning. My academic focus includes object-oriented programming, web development, and academic research into generative visual Vision-Language Models. I’ve worked setting up Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) tools like OpenAI's Whisper and have conducted academic research though the National Science Foundation. I am also an alumni of Google's Tech Exchange Program for the Spring 2025 semester.

Coming from a low income working class Latino background, I understand the value of hard work and am eager to apply my technical skills in professional settings. I am actively seeking internship and research opportunities to bridge my classroom learning with actual real world experience.

Beyond academics, I'm deeply engaged in campus life through student organizations and school events. I'm also committed to giving back to my community, having volunteered as a kitchen aide at a local community center for nearly five years. Whether I'm coding, learning new technologies, or serving others, I approach everything in life with the determination that comes from being a first generation student who knows the importance of seizing every opportunity. If you want to hire me as a junior software engineer, or need another student researcher in your department who specializes in machine learning, send me an email: jalva445@fiu.edu or mrjuan.alvarado@outlook.com

Fine-Tunning TinyLLAMA for Sarcasm Detection

Machine Learning Research I conducted at UTDallas as part of the NSF REU Program for Summer 2025, extended until Fall 2025. Attempted to publish to a conference but couldn't due to co-current work conducted by other students at the university. Most of the code I used and created during my research is still currently in an S3 bucket.

Ethereum Mining Rig

Pooled resources together with a group of friends and ran a modest mining farm prior to Ethereum's transition from proof of work, to proof of stake. It consisted of 5 Nvidia 3090's running on HiveOS and another rig of 5 overclocked AMD GPUs.
